THROUGH A GLASS DARKLY / TRWY WYDR YN DYWYLL
This work explores the spiritual identity of Welsh culture, its Celtic pagan traditions interwoven with early Christian traditions rooted in community connectivity and folk practices. Originally based on religious iconography, the ritualisation of this becoming religious choreography and representations of Welsh saints and religious figures. Finding ways to embody the symbolisms of these understated, calculated gestural choices while questioning and redefining traditional religious notions of purity, femininity, cosmic order and moral conduct. Drawing inspiration from my own experiences growing up between the South Wales coast and the Rhondda Valleys and studying the Welsh language and sounds that encompass Welsh communities, being poetry, song and Welsh hymnody, born from moments of industrial hardship, religious revival, community identity and a desire for hope and unity.
